How do you get a business email address?
The first step is having accurate employment data. This is the most critical part because a business email address is a function of the company your alum is at. If you don’t have the current company it will be impossible to find their business email address.
Once you are confident that your employment data is up to date, the first step is finding the domain mailing address for that company.
How to find a domain using a company name?
The easiest way is to use a search engine like Google or Bing. By simply putting in the search query the company name, you can find the domain and the correct “.com/.ca/.edu” address that is used with every email address.
AlumniFOX can supercharge this process by tapping into Google’s search API and turning 1,000’s of company names into their correct domains - in seconds.
Instead of having to manually do this, using a powerful API like Google can help you do this in a matter of moments.
- Finding An Email Address
Since you now have your record’s First Name, Last Name, Company Name, and Domain URL, you have all the inputs necessary to produce a business email address.
It is almost always the case that the email address will be a combination of their first and last name, along with the domain URL.
For example:
John Smith who currently works at salesforce.
The domain for Salesforce is salesforce.com.
Most popular:
Others
It will almost always be one of the above combinations. Inputting the end result into your gmail or outlook ‘composed message’ allows you to see if the server picks it up, thus semi-validating the address.
So, now that we know the correct syntax and structure of a business email address.
- How do we know which one to use?
By running all variations of an email address through an email validator. An email validator will ping the server and notify us whether this server exists or not.
These are all great options that have friendly APIs you can use in your CRM with some minor custom development.
Usually, you will receive a score of Valid, Invalid, and Catch-all.
Valid - Will deliver with 100% certainty
Invalid - Will not deliver
Catch-all - Will deliver with 50-90% certainty
